About Our Platform

FreeTaxUpdate.com is a comparison and lead generation platform, not a licensed tax relief firm. We do not directly provide tax preparation, tax resolution, legal, or accounting services. Our role is to connect consumers with licensed, vetted tax relief professionals who compete for your business.

We earn referral fees from our partner professionals when a connection is made. This business model allows us to keep our service completely free for consumers.

Partner Licensing Requirements

All tax relief professionals in the FreeTaxUpdate.com partner network must hold at least one of the following active professional credentials:

Enrolled Agent (EA)

Federally licensed tax practitioners with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS, credentialed through examination or IRS employment.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

State-licensed accounting professionals with authority to represent taxpayers before the IRS and state tax agencies.

Tax Attorney

Licensed attorneys specializing in tax law with authority to represent taxpayers in all proceedings, including Tax Court.

How Our Partners Are Vetted

Before being admitted to our partner network, each tax relief professional undergoes a thorough vetting process:

  • Verification of active professional licenses and credentials with issuing authorities
  • Review of disciplinary history with state licensing boards and the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility
  • Confirmation of professional liability insurance coverage
  • Assessment of business reputation including BBB rating, consumer reviews, and complaint history
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax resolution services
  • Ongoing monitoring for compliance and consumer satisfaction

Consumer Protection Information

We encourage all consumers to protect themselves when seeking tax relief services:

  • Always verify a professional's credentials independently before entering any agreement
  • Be wary of any firm that guarantees specific results before reviewing your tax records
  • Understand all fees before signing a service agreement and get them in writing
  • The IRS never initiates contact via email, text, or social media — be cautious of scams
  • You may file a complaint with the FTC, your state Attorney General, or the IRS if you believe you have been a victim of a tax relief scam

Have concerns about a partner? If you have a complaint about any tax relief professional connected through our platform, please contact us immediately at compliance@freetaxupdate.com or call 1-800-555-0199. We take all complaints seriously and will investigate promptly.
